What we offer
The Progymnasium is intended for students whose knowledge of both German and English enables them to follow lessons in either language without any problem. Our students have chosen a Progymnasium because they have set themselves the goal of transferring to the upper school of the Gymnasium after 8th grade.
The Progymnasium is organised like a Gymnasium and prepares students for the final four years of the Gymnasium (upper school). The programme has been organised so as to facilitate the smooth transition to the upper school of the Gymnasium after 8th grade. In contrast to the bilingual lower school of the Gymnasium, Latin is not taught. On the other hand, students have more lessons in German, French and Mathematics.
Special subject teachers teach in accordance with the immersion principle. Students are taught almost entirely by members of the Gymnasium staff, speaking their own mother tongue, German or English.
In the course of the second class (8th grade), students can qualify for transfer to the upper school of Freies Gymnasium Zürich (FGZ) without needing to take an examination.
The bilingual programme is concluded with the Swiss Bilingual Matura which qualifies students to study at Swiss and international universities.
